Port Equipment Specialists

Our History:

Port Equipment Specialists was founded by Nick Shakallis in 2021.  Nick has over 20 years’ experience in the overhaul, maintenance and testing associated with industrial containerized handling equipment. Integrating conventional and computerized control systems to meet an array of port technical advances over the last two decades have set his skills apart.  Straddle carriers, ship-to-shore cranes and RTG’s are but a few among an ever-increasing variety of automatic and hybrid port assets that have been his study.  It is in this setting he has fulfilled a need for installation, technical training and troubleshooting support.

He also has extensive experience in the discipline of predictive and preventative maintenance designed to reduce downtime and enhance overall equipment reliability. Skills that are in high demand from Americas busiest ports.

Nick’s career in the Port industry began at the Port of Virginia with a 15-year term as a crane electronics technician. Thereafter, he traveled the world providing containerized equipment oversight and commissioning services for several leading consulting firms. His career has connected him with the OEM and the professionals of the port industry, those who manage and maintain a diverse compliment of lifting equipment.

His decision to form Port Equipment Specialists, LLC is one driven by his interest in port equipment reliability and specifically the integrated system design responsible for modern machine efficiencies and environmental impact reduction.

Today’s Challenges:

Today’s ports are gripped with increasing container volumes, limited real estate and an influx of automated lifting machinery. This coupled with an aging crane fleet requires port technical teams to support new equipment with limited OEM oversight or training.

Our Solutions:

Port Equipment Specialists was formed to offer a unique combination of system integration services, overhaul and reliability solutions, equipment troubleshooting and associated training. These services will assist with saving money, avoiding premature failures, increasing equipment’s life cycle therefore allowing for more effective budgeting.  Our confidence is that this alliance will prepare today’s port industry professionals to meet the organizational goals of tomorrow.
